An Overview of Dental bridges in Columbia

Dental bridges can fix or bridge gaps in your smile if you have missing teeth. affordable dental bridges in Columbia are artificial teeth held in place by abutment teeth on each side of the gap. Pontiacs can be constructed of various materials, including gold, but they’re usually made of porcelain to blend in with your natural teeth.

Types of Dental Bridges in Columbia

Dental bridges are divided into four categories:

    • Traditional dental bridge

A typical dental bridge comprises dental crowns cemented onto each of the abutment teeth to hold an artificial tooth or teeth. When you have natural teeth on both sides of the gap created by your missing tooth, a conventional bridge is the most common dental bridge.

    • Cantilever dental bridge

The pontic in a cantilever dental bridge is kept in place by a dental crown glued to only one abutment tooth, similar to a regular bridge. Only one natural tooth adjacent to the missing tooth gap is required for a cantilever bridge.

    • Maryland dental bridge

Maryland dental bridges, like traditional bridges, use two natural abutment teeth, one on each side of the gap. On the other hand, a Maryland bridge uses a metal or porcelain framework attached to the backs of the abutment teeth rather than dental crowns on the abutment teeth.

A Maryland bridge can only be utilized if you have a natural tooth on each side of the gap produced by the missing tooth or teeth, just like a standard bridge.

    • Implant-supported dental bridge

As the name implies, implant-supported bridges are supported by dental implants rather than crowns or frames. One implant is surgically implanted for each missing tooth, and these implants hold the bridge in place. A pontic may be suspended between two implant-supported crowns if one implant isn’t practicable for each lost tooth.

An implant-supported bridge, which is the most robust and most stable method, usually necessitates two surgeries:

    • one for implant placement in the jawbone
    • a second procedure to put the bridge in place

The operation may take several months to complete.

Why do you need a dental bridge?

When you have a missing tooth or teeth, it might have various consequences. A dental bridge can help with a variety of issues, including:

    • re-establishing your smile
    • regaining the ability to chew properly
    • regaining control of your speech and pronunciation
    • keeping your face’s shape
    • altering your bite so that the effort of chewing is distributed evenly
    • keeping your remaining teeth from shifting out of their proper alignment.
