– 2 cups (250 grams) of self-rising flour
– 1/4 cup (50 grams) sugar
– Zest of 1 orange
– 1/2 cup (113 grams) butter, cold and cubed
– 1/2 cup (85 grams) of raisins or sultanas
– 1/2 cup (120 ml) milk
– 1 egg, beaten
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and orange zest. Add the butter and use your fingers to rub it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the raisins or sultanas.
- Add the milk and egg and mix until everything is well combined.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and roll out to about 1/2 inch (1 cm) thick. Use a biscuit cutter or a glass to cut out rounds. Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet.
