    In today’s world, where life is tremendously hectic and stressful, it becomes highly significant to find a hobby or a leisure activity to de-stress from time to time. A few would agree with this, but participating in a sport could be the best way to achieve that. Alongside maintaining a healthy physique, sports help us channel our thoughts and keep us more focused as well.     Sports, in general, are a great way to manage stress and improve a person’s mood. Statistics show that about 75-90% of doctor visits are due to stress-related issues. Participating in a sport ensures all our concentration is on the task, our thoughts and worries on the back burner for as long as we do. Sports act as an outlet, a way to properly sort through everything we are feeling and experiencing in our daily lives. Furthermore, it has been proved that sports play a vital role in individuals struggling with anger management issues. It helps keep them in check, manages their emotions accordingly, and does not act rashly.

    Depression is a deadly disease, and while it is not visible, it is something that more or less all of us have gone through at some facet of our lives. There are said to be many ways to combat this mental illness, but it has been widely recorded those sports have helped many people overcome depression. People who participate in sports are more likely to combat depression effectively than those who exercise individually. Sports encourage teamwork, consequently encouraging teammates to interact with each other and bond. This opportunity to build relationships and socialize allows us not to feel as alone.

    As we all know, addiction is an ailment that individuals in our society have been struggling with for as long as we can remember. Starting from narcotics to alcohol and everything in between, there are many types of addictions that people of all demographics are a victim of. Now while it is pretty easy to get hooked onto an affliction of any kind, getting rid of that addiction is what takes a toll on the person’s overall mental health. Participating in a sport has proven to aid in relinquishing any addiction to a great degree. It pulls a person’s focus to a direction where they need to be alert at all times, thus, acting as a great distraction. Recovering addicts find it therapeutic to channel their mind and energy to something that wouldn’t make them want to return to their affliction. Sports provide just what they need; the distraction and the consistency that keeps them healthier and happier.
